Digital Tachgraph introduction date in Europe is May 1st, 2006
Regulation (EC) No. 561/2006 on "the Harmonisation of certain social legislation relating to road transport and amending Council Regulations (EEC) No. 3821/85 and (EC) No. 2135/98 and repealing Council Regulation (EEC) No. 3820/85" was published on 11 April 2006 in the Official Journal of the European Union.

According to Article 27 of Regulation (EC) No. 561/2006 the introduction of digital tachographs will be mandatory in vehicles put into service for the first time in the European Union as from 1 May 2006, namely 20 days after its publication.
New as of May 1st, 2006: Changed storage duty of diagram charts in the vehicle, manual recordings and printouts
The safekeeping period for diagram charts, manual recordings and printouts was prolonged. According to Reg. (EC) No. 561/2006, Article 26, drivers, on request, must be able to present diagram charts, manual recordings and printouts for the current week plus the preceding 15 days (up to now one day). This Regulation is binding as from 1st May 2006 in all EU Member States.
